The Bongos
Disc Sports Club of West London has been awarded £5,000
to install a disc golf course in London.
The
money was awarded by a government run initiative called
'Awards
For All'.
When
the course is installed it will be the first course in
the UK to be funded and supported by public money and
to be built on public land.
The
Bongos applied for the award in February, encouraged and
supported by the London Borough of Ealing. The Bongos
DSC has been promoting disc golf in the Borough since
1997.
The
sports development team at Ealing Council, 'Active Ealing',
has shown significant interest in setting up London's
first public disc golf course in the Borough. The Bongos
and Ealing Council are currently working together to find
if there is any land suitable for a course.
Bongos
Club spokesperson Richard Sampson said "We're thrilled
to receive this award, the UK's first public disc golf
course is a significant milestone. We're confident that
when people see what this sport is all about, courses
will be springing up all over the country."
If Ealing Council cannot find a suitable site the Bongos
DSC will be looking to set the course up in another London
Borough.
As
soon as more news breaks OBmegazine will be first to report.
