Mid Summer's Solstice june
2000
Canizzarro Park, Wimbledon, hosted
its biennial Summer Solstice competition back in June, not quite on the
longest day of year, but close. Players met up and teed off at around
7pm. Favourites for the honours had to be local players Oz Friere or Andy
Lucey. A few of the Bongos were hopeful and the big armed Kiwi Steve Scarbrough
was also looking for some scalps. And scalps are exacly what Steve got
as he wiped the floor with the competition, shooting 3 under par. Canizarro
is a beautiful course and very challenging, although Steve beat the course,
other players generally agreed it was good fortune that won Steve the
contest rather than good play! Winter League The local players at Canizarro
are going ahead and starting up a Winter league for mainly London players.
The league will be straight matchplay and will alternate between Canizarro
and Elthorne Park, on weekends. To find out more, oz@discgolf.co.uk
