Over the weekend of
November 15th and 16th Team DDT hosted there first
social event at the Big
Sheep Family Enterainment Park.
Ten players arrived
at the Big Sheep to take part in this inaugural
tournament. The format was agreed at the Players
Meeting, accompanied by equally agreeable bacon
sarnies and coffee. Splitting into small groups
we started our first round of singles stroke play
and to much delight of the newer players of Team
DDT witnessed Derek Robins destroying the existing
course record by a massive 9 shots, closely followed
by Bud Tilton 2 shots behind.
Squeeky Collier's
very near Ace on 'The Dugout' was one of the most
memorable shots of the weekend. TD Stuey Brompton
also shot a first round under the old course record
just one shot behind Collier. Further down the rankings
a great battle was shaping up with 10 shots seperating
four players from Team DDT.
Lunch was back at
the Big Sheep, where the course was reflected on
by the visitors. One change to the course was agreed
and it was back out for a round of doubles stroke
play (best shot). Again, the course record was smashed
by Britain's no.1 player Derek Robins.
Evening entertainment
was laid on by Chris and Lee who kindly put people
up their home for visitors. Later in the evening,
a Playstation2 challenge was set down by Team DDT.
Colin McCrae's Rally allowed Team DDT to get some
of their own back on the disc golf experts. Robins
+ Tilton may be able to drive a golf disc masterly,
but rallying a Ford Focus is a drive they are both
far from mastering! Tilton's first race actually
took a shade over 16 mins compared to the world
record of 4 mins!
On Sunday morning,
the players again met at the Big Sheep for more
bacon sarnies and more coffee. The groups were decided
and singles stroke play commenced. Robins again
smashed the course record taking it to an amazing
42 with Bud 5 shots behind.
After lunch, it was
doubles stroke play (best shot). This drew a Team
DDT grudge match; a contest between four players
- Stuey and the Birdcage against Chris and Lee.
A small wager was placed and the battle commenced.
Stuey and the Birdcage shot a respectful 45, just
4 shots over Robins' and Baz's new course record
of 41. Chris and Lee folded under the pressure and
finished with a 50.
The awards were presented
at the pub!
Longest Drive - Bud
Tilton
Closest to the Pin
- Squeeky Collier and Del Robins
Player of the Weekend
Award (a beautifully crafted snow dome containg
a sheep)
Awarded to Derek Robins.
Team DDT would like
to thank all the players over the weekend for showing
how it should be done and also the Big Sheep for
allowing the use of there venue.
