Report
by Dan Thurlow
The perfect
weather at Essex attracted 14 players to the
winter doubles event. The strong contingent
of new local players meant that partnerships
were reasonably even, with experienced players
having a beginner as a partner.
The day was
split between two rounds of 18 and 12 with
lunch in the student bar in between. The student
beer prices clearly didnt affect play
as the second round saw clear improvements
across the board, especially from the beginners.
Three of whom were playing there tournament
debut and found the doubles format a good
way to be introduced to more formal play.
The tournament
was close and went right down to the last
hole, before Fernando Brown and Dan Thurlow
emerged as winners to claim the 1st prize.
Further prizes were donated by the Chicago
Rock Cafe (Colchester), who have expressed
their interest to continue to support disc
sports in Colchester.
A local paper
also came out to cover the event, this will
undoubtedly help increase publicity of our
sport and hopefully bring some new faces onto
the scene.
