Results + Review by Jester Wilson
Well what a belter of a weekend! In absolutely perfect weather (blue skies
and virtually no wind) some great golf was played and much money raised for
the Dorset Wildlife Trust at the inaugural Whitcombe Ice Bowl. Final total - £203!!

The money was raised by collecting £3 from each player fee (thanks to
Whitcombe Golf for the low entry cost that allowed this and Discology for
donating the prizes), by selling the players 'Mulligans' (a 'Mulligan is a
free shot a player can use if they mess up and want to try again) and from
donations by the players and others not at the event.

Long time member of the DWT Robin White was on hand to collect the cheque from the players. He was very grateful for the fundraising work put in and was very interested in the golf too!

Winners
(scroll down for all placings)

Open winner - Jester Wilson
Am Winner - Jon Turner

Round 1 - Modern 18
In the tournament Oz, Gwyn and Richard started off with solid 60s a piece, narrowly pipped by Jester's 57. However, Jester did have to use all 3 of his Mulligans to achieve this!

Fernando 'Rocky' Brown shot a respectable 63 in his first visit to Whitcombe, but it is expected this will come down a few strokes at the Frostbreaker!

Visitor to the UK, American Jeff Lambert shot a great 65 to lead the Ams. An excellent round, he's only been playing for 6 months!

Wife of Dan, Kate Massey was out playing at Whitcombe. Hopefully she will become a regular in the women's division on Tour 2004!

Round 2 - Modern 12
Matt Pike and Jon Turner shot great scores, 40 and 41 respectively. This was the same as Oz (40) and Jester (41) showing how the gap between Open and Am
players is ever shortening.

With his last drive of the day, Jon Turner pinched the CTP Billy Ault was holding parking pin point drive on the 115y/105m hole 14 Bunny Heaven. Your keys, Sir!

Overnight top scores:
Open
1 Jester Wilson 98
2 Oz Freire 100
3 Richard Sampson 100
4 Matt Pike 105
5 Gwyn Wilden 106

Am
1 Jeff Lambert 115
2 Jon Turner 116
3 Andy Freeman 118
4 Stu Brompton 122

Round 3 - Ancient 18
Richard Sampson didn't start teh round due to a pulled muscle - that'll teach him for not warming up properly. Fernanado started to get into his stride with a 59 as Matt continued to impress with another solid 60 putting him two up on Gwyn (those of you familiar with 'Pike's Syndrome' will realise how significant this is!).

In the Ams Jon T picked up 7 shots on Jeff as they shot 70 and 63 respectively. This gave Jon T a 6 shot lead going into the final 12.

Billy Ault pulled out a cracking drive on the 131y/119m hole 17 Mind the Bees to win the long range CTP finishing just 8 feet from the hole! Honourable mention for Matt Pike's effort which measured just 4 inches outside of Billy's. Hard luck Matt!

Round 4 - Ancient 12
With Oz unfortunately unable to stay for the last round, Jester's lead was fortuitously opened up from 4 to 9 shots. This may have contributed to the relaxed 35 the Scot carded to win the event. Matt hung on to his two shot lead over Gwyn, both players shooting 39 and finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively. Are we about to see Pike's Syndrome replaced by Wilden's Syndrome?!

Jeff made a worthy comeback 40, but Jon T's 43 was enough to hold on and win the Ams with Andy Freeman in 3rd place.
