This was the 3rd tournament at the Green Park Centre and probably the best yet. The 2 x twelve hole courses were in great shape and the weather was fantastic. The teams were seeded and split into two pools, each team played 6 matches.

The tournament was deserving of a great final and a great final it was. The Deltones won their pool very impressively to reach the final and Double Malt also went unbeaten in their pool to reach the final.

After 12 holes of the final both teams were unseparable. It was on the 3rd playoff hole that a winner emerged and once again it was the Deltones who triumped - their 4th consecutive Doubles Matchplay title.

Lower down the field, there was impressive performances from the Drunken Monkeys - who on two occasions beat higher seeded teams. Also deserving of a special mention was Paul Buck of Beaky. He injured his throwing arm half way through the tournament. Instead of retiring, he played the rest of his matches throwing with his weaker arm.

Review Of Final by Jester

Deltones (Derek Robins, Toby Wakeford)
vs
Double Malt (Liam Young, Jester Wilson

Hole 1 Bend it like Beckham - All square
A slow start from Double malt as two poor drives don't leave a clear putt.
Deltones have a gimme for 2. Hole to Deltones.

Hole 2 Fleur Ching! - Deltones 1up
Tony gets CTP at about 3-4 yards and really puts the pressure on, but Jester
sinks a 15 yarder to half the hole and stop the Deltones going 2 up after 2.
Hole halved.

Hole 3 Jammy Roll - Deltones 1up
Liam and Del put up great drives. Jester sinks from 13 yards to put the
pressure on and Del responds with an 11 yarder to half the hole and stay 1
up. Hole halved.

Hole 4 Copse and Robbers - Deltones 1up
Tidy drives and approaches for gimme 3s. Hole halved.

Hole 5 In Residence - Deltones 1up
Tidy drives for gimme 2s. Hole halved.

Hole 6 - Hex 2 - Deltones 1up
Tidy drives for gimme 2s, but Double Malt have to take Liam's drive forcing
Jester to drive Snow White alone. Hole halved.

Hole 7 - Snow White - Deltones 1up
Deltones drive is 13 yards short, but Derek makes the big putt. Liam holds
his nerve and holes a 7 yarder from between the dwarves. Hole halved.

Hole 8 - Three Man Cedar - Deltones 1up
A gallery of other players has now formed increasing the pressure. Del
slides a great drive just past the basket but Liam and Jester both hit the
nasty stuff short and right. Liam's lie is in the river channel but still
dry. Jester holes out a straddle 12 yarder from behind the bushes to half
the hole and keep the match alive. The crowd go wild! Hole halved.

Hole 9 - The Green Mile - Deltones 1up
The pressure is mounting for both pairs and for the first time in the match
the Deltones look a little shaky. Tony's drive hits the trees and Del's
forehand turns right too early but still gets down towards the basket. Both
miss the putt from 12 yards while Liam slots a 6 yarder from Jester's drive
to level the match. Crowd go ballistic! Hole to Double Malt.

Hole 10 - Spiderman - All square
Tidy drives and approaches for gimme 3s. Hole halved.

Hole 11 - Ridge Racer - All square
Tidy drives and approaches for gimme 3s. Hole halved.

Hole 12 - Shyzer - All square
Due to the two-drive rule Double Malt are forced to take Jester's drive.
Relishing the challenge Jester unloads a 128yarder, subsequently winning the
longest drive comp. Deltones decide to approach from Derek's drive which is
closer than Tony's, even though it will force them to take Tony's drive next
should the hole be tied. Both pairs make tidy approaches for gimme 3s. Hole
halved.

Result - All square after 12 holes

Sudden Death Playoff (SDPO)

SDPO Hole 1 Bend it like Beckham
Double Malt repeat their drives from earlier in the round pulling them left
too early. Tony places a great forced drive 6 yards behind the basket.
Liam's lie is 9 yards out behind a little hanging annoyance. Some
inspirationally words allow Jester to ignore this and make the putt. Hole
halved.

SDPO Hole 2 Fleur Ching!
Double malt play very safe going well right away from the OB leaving 25
yards to go. Liam's putt is on line but low, so a gimme 3 is there. Jester
has a run at it, gets the height, but misses on the right side. Deltones are
now putting for the match from 15 yards and the pressure is immense. Tony
putts first and misses. Derek gets his on line but to gasps from the crowd
is inches low and his the purse. This is the first time in the match a hole
has not yielded a birdie to at least one of the pairs. Hole halved.

SDPO Hole 3 Jammy Roll
Liam's disc slips out at 11 o'clock and never comes back in play form the
OB. Jester plays very safe getting pin high but 20 yards right. Tony's drive
also find the OB but Del puts one straight down the middle to within 12
yards. Up to this point putting has been the saving grace of Double Malt's
game and both players manage hit metal, Liam the chains and Jester the lid,
but neither putt stays in. Tony misses his putt meaning Derek is put in the
same situation as the last hole. This time he doesn't quiver and sends his
disc centre-chains to rousing applause from the gallery. Hole to Deltones.

Result: Deltones win by 1 on third play off hole
