A
well run and contested tournament, complimented with the
best weather of the year so far.
The
handicap format drew some unfamiliar group match ups.
Anyone having a good day on the course had a good chance
of placing well on the leaderboard.
This
was the first handicap event for a few years. Quarry Park
has built up a good record of players scores since its
conception in 1995. This data was well interpreted and
the handicap seemed to work out very fairly.
There
was a number of competitions going on at the same time,
welcoming players who could only play one day over the
weekend.
The
tournament was dominated from start to finish by the NOMADS
club player, Dan Massey. He has shown some early form
in 2002 and this continued at Quarry Park. He ran away
with the title winning by 11 shots.
Other
notable performances included a place on the podium for
Gwyn Wilden and Jon Turner of team Oxdis. The double act
are also aka the 'Drunken Monkeys'.
Local
players from Quarry Park DGC had disappointing weekends
performance wise, all blamed the handicap system for their
mediocre weekend.
OB
Megazine's bookies had Duncan Hartshorney down as pre
tournament favourite, but the faith was misplaced, he
left his golf game at home and never really took advantage
of his generous handicap.
Furthest
travelled was Don from Wisconsin, USA. Don's home course
is Tower Ridge, Eau Claire, WI, part of the Chippewa Valley
Disc Golf Organisation. I'm sure there'll be a website
some where if you fancy a search around.
Two
juniors played on Saturday, Duncan and Keith. Keith played
out of his skin and carded the best net performance of
the day.
Sunday
brought plenty of joy for Bud Tiltern as he threw his
first discs since being knocked off his Harley Davidson
and cracking 2 ribs.
New
City Skimmer's Dave Manning and Spencer Worth of the Bongos
contested won the award for most discs in the River Avon.
Both lost 3 in the drink, however the prize was awarded
to Dave as he managed to lose three in just one day.
Spririt
was plenty across the whole weekend and the format proved
to be very refreshing and a lot of fun.
