BDGA Tour
2001 - Event 9 (final event)
Graves Park,
Sheffield, England
13/14 October |
Player
feedback suggests that Graves Park was a fine addition to this
year's BDGA Tour. This was the first time a tournament had taken
place in Sheffield.
This
new course and event was co-ordinated by the BDGA's Development
Officer, Simon Luard, with the full co-operation of Sheffield
City Council. They are one of five councils in England to approve
a disc golf event in 2001. other

A
challenging 12 target disc golf course was designed and introduced
to the park for the duration of the weekend only.
Players
report that the park was a great location for a course, and
Simon had created a good mix of holes. There was also plenty
of interest from other park users, intrigued by the new activity
taking place in the park.
16
players took part in the two-day event and the results are below.
The
closing positions were as follows:
1
Charlie Mead (Open Div)
2 Del Robins (Open Div)
3 Jester (Open Div)
4 Si Luard (Open Div)
5 Bud Tilton (Open Div)
6 Ivan Bromage (Open Div)
7 Rob Capper (Am Div)
8 Tony Wakeford (Open Div)

Review by Steve Jones:
Foxall Squeaks Out Am Division, Mead & Cropper Take Sheffield
In a dramatic finish to this year's Amateur Division title race,
Big Ben Foxall overtook Steve Jones by a mere (unofficial) 7
overall points for the 2001 Amateur Division Championship. Coming
down to the last holes of the year, Foxall, in the final analysis,
probably made about one less mistake than Jones over the course
of the year, in what many have dubbed the closest rivalry in
contemporary British Sport. ** sigh **
Also
last weekend at the lovely Graves Park in Sheffield, Simon Luard's
well-TD'd event gave Charlie Mead the chance to comfortably
add another notch on his putter, as well as setting the course
record twice in one day, with only 33 strokes over 12 holes.
Rob
Crapper stormed the Ams by 12 strokes. Mr. Capper, who reportedly
feels under-represented in these tournament reports, won't have
to worry about that next year if he continues to golf as well
as he did this weekend.
Hats
off to Big Ben Foxall, Charles Langdon Mead, and Rip Crepe-Paper,
the Shining Star of Milton Keynes.
